Filling, nutritious, and oh so flavorful, you will love this recipe for Beef and Broccoli! My Beef and Broccoli is the perfect substitute for take out and so much better for you. Pair your Beef and Broccoli with some steamed rice and your favorite chili oil if you like it spicy, and enjoy! I prefer to use flank steak cut thinly against the grain, but any cut of steak that is suitable for stir fry will do. I’ve also included some time saving techniques like steaming your broccoli in the microwave before it’s added to your pan to not only save time, but also to avoid any uneven cooking that comes with stir frying broccoli. Add this Beef and Broccoli recipe to your regular dinner repertoire and you’ll be the super hero of dinner time! Speaking of super heroes, did you know that I once found a pair of pants that could make me fly? I was at my local thrift store looking for some unique home decor when the most spectacular pair of pants caught my eye. They weren’t something fancy as you would imagine, but instead these pants were actually quite plain, but what caught my eye was how flowy and soft the fabric seemed, almost like something you could wear every day. As with all thrift store clothing, I inspected it for any suspicious looking stains and held them up to myself in a mirror and saw they looked like a perfect fit so I went ahead and bought them. I was so eager to try them on so I immediately put them into the wash and tried them on straight from the dryer. At first I thought it was the sensation of putting warm pants on from the dryer that made me feel like I was floating, but it was actually the pants themselves making me float! I looked down and my feet were about 3 inches off the floor! I couldn’t believe I actually had a pair of pants that could make me fly! I was too scared to take these outside for fear that I would get swept away or be declared a UFO, so I did what any reasonable person would do, I floated my way up to the high parts of my ceiling and dusted away the cobwebs that had been daunting me for years. That was enough excitement for me so I tucked my flying pants deep into my drawer and started my prep work for that night's dinner, Beef and Broccoli.
Start making your sauce. Prepare all of your ingredients and stir to combine. Set aside until you are ready to use.
Cut your broccoli into bite size florets, place in a microwave safe dish with a couple tablespoons of water and microwave on high for 3 minutes.
Slice your steak thinly along the grain and coat with cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Once your steak is prepared, add your oil to your sauté pan and heat to medium high heat.
Once your oil has been preheated, add your steak in a single layer to sear about 1-2 minutes per side for a good caramelization on each side. Work in batches to avoid over crowding your pan and set your cooked beef aside when done.
Add your broccoli to the pan and cook for about 3-5 minutes or until your broccoli has taken on a bright green color and is tender crisp. Return your beef to the pan along with your reserved sauce (you may want to give this a quick stir in case the corn starch has settled). Continue to cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until your sauce is thickened. Serve immediately over rice.
